Let’s say hypothetically speaking, that when you started your web site you got in over your head so to speak and made a few rookie mistakes along the way. When you started your email marketing strategy you really didn’t know what you’re doing and began adding e-mail addresses instead of allowing your web site visitors to opt in themselves. Now you have a mailing list populated by people who do not want to receive what you’re sending and instead of becoming potential customers they have become irate and belligerent.
The good news is that all is not lost and you may be able to save face after all. I’ve seen this happen more times than you might imagine and in many cases the email marketing strategy was fixable.
The first thing to do is to take an on this to look at your approach. What is it about your email marketing strategy that isn’t working? If your e-mail recipients do not have the option to opt out of receiving emails from you that is your first and most crucial priority. In every e-mail you send to a list you must- MUST - include at the base of the message clear and understandable instructions on how the end user can stop receiving e-mail from you. In a large percentage of cases this is all that is necessary to save a poorly set up email marketing strategy.
One final tip: to thank the customers on your mailing list for their patients with you, why not send them out a special thank you discount rate on your products or services?
